Historic Hike to Kings Mountain

We decided to have a little history lesson with our September hike. The Pack traveled to the Kings Mountain National Battlefield. The hike was great. It is a nice paved path, but with enough hills to provide a bit of a challenge.

The scouts and their parents started in the visitor's center where every scout signed up for the Junior Ranger program. Along our hike, the scouts searched for the answers to the questions in the Jr. Ranger booklet. We had to find plants and animals. We had to read the

historical markers to answer the questions about the battle. I think their favorite part of this hike was seeing the monuments along the way.

Once we arrived back at the visitor's center, we watched a short video about the battle. The scouts continued to search for answers to their booklet in the center and its connected museum.

After completing their tasks, each scout turned in the booklets to the Park Ranger on duty. Each scout finished the booklet just before the park was closing for the night. Once they were all finished, the Park Ranger handed out their badges and did a swearing in ceremony to the Jr. Park Ranger Program. What a fun afternoon.
