Scarecrow Crawl

The entire Pack participated in our first ever Scarecrow Crawl for our October hike. Our hometown encourages local businesses and civic groups to make scarecrows to decorate our town for the month of October. We decided to take an suburban hike this month and check it out.

I for one was impressed with our town's local talent. Who knew there were so many different types of scarecrows to be built? We saw scary Scarecrows, silly scarecrows, scarecrows based on storybook characters and even a scarecrow that looked like Ms. Laura's pastor. After hiking around for a bit, we let the scouts stretch their legs at the local playground before completing the hike. Taking a suburban hike was a nice change of pace for the group. It was nice for the scouts to participate in a local event too. The biggest challenge we found for a suburban hike was trying to get 30 scouts and 30 parents and a handful of siblings to cross the road successfully. If you haven't tried one yet, you should.
